Today it seems like everywhere you turn someone is making a cut. On my campus looming budget cuts seem to be the only topic of discussion.
“Did you hear what they are talking about cutting now?” is the most common question students are asking each other.
At Middle Tennessee State University the possibility of faculty furloughs, cutting majors and programs have got the students up in arms.
Rightly, they should be, this is their future, they are standing up for. Recently students staged a protest on the university president's lawn
Unfortunately, things do not start and end there.
Earlier this semester students protested the 12-credit-hour tuition cap introduced by the Tennessee Board of Regents, Chancellor Charles Manning in his new business model.
The model proposed that students attending TBR institutions will experience a tuition hike next fall if they enroll in more than 12 credit hours.
In order for most students to graduate in the traditional four years, he or she must take at least 15 hours a semester.
Unfortunately these issues are just the first in a series of budget problems that students will have to face.
